Treble clefs & Oyster catchers...

This piece was done for a lady who wanted to  give her daughter a special present for her fortieth birthday.
Her daughter was called Angharad and she was a musician who loved Oyster catchers.
As you can see I managed the treble clef and even her name (this photo was taken before I  chain stitched Angharad  around a flower) as for the Oyster catcher as beautiful as they are I just couldn't manage to fit it on without it looking ....odd!
I hope you are enjoying Autumn as much as I am. I think it is my favourite time of year.
A season of conkers, crochet and casseroles. m m m m m m h!

Bread and Roses......

Today it is my
lovely friend
Kay's birthday so
I decided to make her
something pretty.

I stitched this little hanging for her and called it
'Bread and Roses' as the other day we were both lamenting about how very poor we are at the moment and that as women not only do we need food on the table, but flowers to feed our souls. I remembered this folk song and was struck by how very appropriate and meaningful the words are...

As we go marching, marching
In the beauty of the day
A million darkened kitchens
A thousand mill lofts grey
Are touched with all the radiance
That a sudden sun discloses
For the people hear us singing
Bread and roses, bread and roses

As we go marching, marching
We battle too for men
For they are womens children
And we mother them again
Our lives shall not be sweetened
From birth until life closes
Hearts starve as well as bodies
Give us bread, but give us roses

As we go marching, marching
We bring the greater days
For the rising of the women
Means the rising of the race
No more the drudge and idler
Ten that toil where one reposes
But the sharing of lifes glories
Bread and roses, bread and roses

......I think that says it all.❀

Pretty in Pink

What was I saying about  the  beginning of a blog being the hardest part... *ahem* anyway I shall strive to do better and update a little more frequently than the once every coupla months that I'm doing at the moment.
These little cuties are called 'Pretty in Pink' and are available to buy as always from coast and country home a beautiful little wooden hut on the North Norfolk coast.
These really are quite teeny and measure  18cm x 12.5cm so just a bit bigger than a greeting card and are sold as a set of three.
I am away to Corran cottage next week to do some essential repairs before the summer hols I shall come back full of nautical inspiration and will show you my other 'boaty' set. TTFN.

In the beginning.......

It's always hard starting a new blog.

I far prefer a well worn, comfortable one,
a blog that I can casually dip in and out of
